New Teams Getting Their Feet Wet at “The Moat”

Yesterday the Storm Robotics Team successfully hosted an FTC Outreach Event called the “Medford Moat”. The event was organized by New Jersey FIRST Tech Challenge and was held at our base of operations, Lenape High School in Medford. NJ FTC devised a modified version of this year’s FTC challenge where participating veteran FTC teams were teamed up with incoming FTC rookies to get their feet wet in building, coding, and competing as an alliance.

As you can see from the images, the game had a medieval feel but still used game elements from “Ring It Up!”  There were also some elements added from games in the past like ramps and bridges for the robots to try and traverse.  The image above shows our team, FTC 4390, trying its best to get up the ramp at the end of the match.

The event was well attended and we are very grateful to all of the teams who came out to support the incoming rookies. There were great examples of gracious professionalism being demonstrated all day as teams collaborated, coaches shared experiences, and relationships took form.
Thank you to all the volunteers who supported the event, especially NJ FTC’s Vince and Pat plus others from around the state who traveled to Medford. And as always, an extra special thanks to our Parent Boosters for their support feeding all of us and taking care of other event logistics.
